Well my friends and well-wishers, I'm afraid that, do to a long list of unfortunate, unforeseen, undesirable, unsettling, unceremonious - alright I'm done - circumstances, Krunal and I had to cancel our planned Smash Brothers: Melee tournament. We had a good thing going, but we've had some difficult finding keeping in touch with our host. Also, we were never able to devise a way to sell tickets on campus without Krunal or I actually being in Anaheim. So, it is with great disappointment, sadness, and whatnot that Krunal and I have resigned to cancel the Smash Brothers: Melee tournament.

We might give it a shot again some other time, but, for now, the CGC Smash Brothers: Melee Tournament is off the books, I'm afraid.

Also, if any of my four sponsors are reading this, do not be alarmed, I'll send you a refund.

The Rules are Simple: Anything Goes! ...Except That!

The rules are fairly simple. Everyone plays in a 4-person, five minute, versus mode match. All characters will be avaliable. All levels will be avilaible. All items will be turned on, and set to 'medium.' The level is always chosen at random (except for the final match). After each match, the first place winner (i.e. the guy who got the most kills in the 5 minute melee) will advance to the next round. If necessary, there may occasionally be a 2 or 3 person versus match, if the number of the participants is not divisible by four. Once everyone has had a chance, the second round will begin.

In the second round, same rules apply. This will continue until eight or less participants remain, after which we will proceed with 1-on-1 matches. Same rules apply. This will continue until only two contestants remain.

Finally, the final match will begin when only two players remain. This time, the two players may select what stage they would like to fight at (they have to agree on one, or they can opt for it to be randomly selected again). Other than that, same rules apply. Winner of that match takes home the prize money!

Hardware
:

The GameCube, memory card, and four controllers (freshly bought, to be opened on site) will be provided by the tournament staff. Players are not permitted to bring their own hardware. The hardware is off limits to players (except, obviously, when they need to touch the controllers to play), and is to be managed by the tournament staff only.

Faults:

Players are not permitted to pause the game, unless it is absolutely necessary (i.e. some idiot walks in front of the tv and stands there...no I'm serious, this happens all the time when my friends and I play). If a player pauses the game without cause (hehe, 'pause without cause,' funny...) he or she may be disqualified. Furthermore, doing a hard or in-game reset will result in unconditional disqualification.

Tampering with the hardware - unplugging controllers, turning off the machine, removing the memory card, etc - will result in unconditional disqualification.

The level-selection is to random every round (except for the last one). If a player makes a selection other than 'random,' he or she will recieve a warning. If he or she does it a second time, he or she will be disqualified.

We also reserve the right to dismiss, without refund, any participants who engage in rowdy, obnoxious, or violent behavior (trash talking, cursing, attempting to distract other participants, physically injuurig or irritating other players, etc). Basically, keep the fighting in the game. The tournament is meant to be fun, and we will, if necessary, dismiss anyone who is from being fun for everyone.

We reserve the right to refuse sevice to anyone.
